Slow Travel Card 2005

Slow Travel is an online community and a resource for finding vacation rentals. We are not travel agents, we do not run a vacation rental agency. We run a message board where Slow Travelers exchange information (www.slowtalk.com), a photo gallery where we collect travel pictures (www.slowphotos.com) and the website where we collect travel information and vacation rental, hotel and restaurant reviews submitted by members of the community (www.slowtrav.com).

Slow Travel is not affiliated with any travel company or vacation rental agency. We are independent.

This website was created in April 2000 by Pauline Kenny and Steve Cohen from Santa Fe, NM. The Slow Travel websites were acquired by Internet Brands in January 2007. The Slow Travel sites join their family of travel websites. Pauline now works with Internet Brands to run the Slow Travel websites and community.

What does Slow Travel mean?

Slow Travelers stay in vacation rentals around the world - apartments or houses that you rent by the week. This makes for a different, slower, type of vacation. You stay longer in one place and get to know one area in depth. The extra time in a place lets you find your favorite coffee shop, get your groceries at the local stores, go to the weekly market - pretend you live there. The Slow Travel web site gives you the information that you need to book a slow vacation. What is Slow Travel?

What are your policies for taking advertising or listing companies?

This website is supported by advertisers (Google Ads, Clickthrus, Classified Listings) and by message board membership fees.

Google Ads

Google Ads are run on specific pages throughout the website and on the side of the message board. They are clearly defined as Google Ads (the words "Google Ads" are displayed at the top of the ad column). These ads are selected by Google based on page content; we do not decide who is displayed there.

Classified Listings

Any travel business can purchase a classified listing on Slow Travel. These appear in the Classifieds section and on content pages where they are clearly identified as classified listings.

Clickthrus

We have banner ads for various companies - A Hotel in Italy, Venere, AutoEurope, Amazon, Cellular Abroad, Telestial, etc. Slow Travel receives a commission for purchases made by people who "clickthru" on our link. We select these companies based on having used them or having heard good things about them from other travelers.

Publishing Reviews of Businesses

All reviews submitted are published (unless we think the review is a fake), even if it is a bad review of someone who paid for a classified. We publish reviews only for vacation rentals, hotels and restaurants. Other types of businesses may be reviewed on the message board (use the FIND button to search).

Lists of Vacation Rental Agencies or other Travel Businesses

The lists of vacation rental agencies or other businesses on the listings pages (e.g. Italy - Vacation Rentals - Listings) are not companies that we endorse; they are companies that we found when searching the Internet and thought they looked interesting.

SlowTrav Favorites

The SlowTrav favorites for vacation rentals are chosen based on good reviews received. They are removed from the favorites if we get bad reviews or do not receive any reviews in a year. To show that a business supports the concept of Slow Travel, they must have a classified listing if they are a SlowTrav favorite.
