Slow Travel Forums - Patriarch and Matriarch

The Slow Travel Forums (www.slowtalk.com) is a community and like any good community we have a Patriarch and a Matriarch. They were chosen by the board members on the basis of age, wisdom and number of posts!

What does the Patriarch/Matriarch do?

They agree to be regular members of our forum community and to help new members find their way into the community. And if we get too extreme, they will rap us on our knuckles! Plus they will just hang out and have a good time with the rest of us.

Patriarch - Doru from Toronto

Doru, the Patriarch

Doru lives in Toronto, Canada and is partially retired from International Banking. He and his wife travel to Europe and the United States frequently.

Doru has written several great trip reports and our page about SWIFT and Money Transfers.

Doru was made Patriarch of the Slow Travel community in 2003. He came up with the idea of having a Patriarch! In September 2006, Doru became a moderator. Now his is both the Patriarch and a moderator!! Doru's Slow Travel member page


Matriarch - Marian from New Jersey

Marian lives in Montclair, NJ. She began traveling to Europe as a young and indigent graduate student and has continued as she became a working professional, wife, mother and now again a graduate student. Marian was the grand prize winner of our 2004 Slow Travel contest!

It was only in March 2005 that we realized we needed a Matriarch, so we chose Marian from NJ. Thanks to EllenS and Kim for making Marian's sash and giving her a celebration lunch.
