I wasn't going to join the Sunday Slow Scoopers, I swear.
What can I say, Chris told me that the Kitchenaid ice cream attachment was on sale at Amazon. I gave in.
The ice cream bowl stores in the freezer, and then fits onto the Kitchenaid mixer, so there's no extra appliance cluttering up the cabinets. The last thing I need is ice cream, but homemade ice cream is so powerfully flavored that just a few spoonfuls are satisfying. And the kids are thrilled.
Yesterday I tried it out with Pina Colada Sherbet from The Perfect Scoop. It was very easy to make. Just fresh pineapple, coconut milk, sugar, lime and rum whirred in the processor, chilled, then churned. Fantastic. Because others felt the recipe was a bit too sweet, I had cut back a bit on the sugar and added grated lime zest. Amazing.
Before going to bed, I threw together the mixture for Ginger-Honey Gelato from Dolce Italiano. This was just a bit more complex, because you have to make a light custard base infused with fresh ginger. I churned it this afternoon, and Wow. Pungent and sweet, creamy without being overly rich.
Next up, Peach Gelato for next weekend with the beautiful local peaches I bought.
