You just never know what you might see while wandering around Assisi . We happened upon this little police car in the Piazza del Comune...
Now this poor guy looks like he sees defeat. I read somewhere that this (temporary) exhibit in front of the Temple of Minerva portrays Francis on his return home from the Crusades.
Come, take a stroll through the streets of Assisi and find out what else there is to see...
Remnants of an old Roman arena...
Rocca Maggiore looming above the town...along the wall to the right, just out of sight, is the Porta Perlici.
Stepping outside the Porta Perlici is a magnificent panorama of the surrounding hills. The photo doesn't do it justice...
Wind down through the most magical narrow streets, feeling your spirit grow lighter with every step...
Pause above Chiesa di Santo Stefano for a time of reflection while gazing over the valley below, the lushness of nature and the warm rosy hue of the stone...
There was a stillness about Assisi that seeped into my soul, and that after only one day. I have a feeling that Assisi, like much of Italy, is a whole different world by night and I hope to have the privilege of experiencing that world someday.

Those are beautiful photos, Anne! I think the statue of the tired knight often sits somewhere around the Basilica de San Francesco and is, indeed, Francis. I could be wrong.....anyway it looks wonderful in the piazza! This is making me rethink Venice in September; maybe I should go back to Umbria instead.

Assisi is on my list too of places I want to return too and spend more time. It was magical.
