We haven't made it to Joggins yet, but we did go for a lovely tour of the Fundy Coast last weekend, stopping in B: Maitland and C: Burntcoat Head.

This was a beautiful drive, cutting across the province through the Rawdon Hills, winding along the Fundy Coast and back home. We had a fantastic day, enjoying the shoreline, a tasty meal, and a stop in a cluttered old junk shop where Ginger found a couple regency romance novels (her current fad) and I found a small carafe in which to serve my table wine.
Here are some images so you can travel along with us...
(warning - there are a lot of photos following!)
First stop, the Interpretive Centre and bridge over the Shubenacadie River where we watched the tidal bore (a very pathetic little one this day, unfortunately) and the river rafters:

Lunchtime! We had a very tasty lunch at this little country store (I had 'free-range' beef burger and broccoli salad, and ice cream for dessert):

Onward to Burntcoat Head:

Up we go to the top:

To see these lovely views:

Looking straight down from the top of the little cliff:

And down the stairs to the shore:

The tide rises and falls so quickly that a few minutes after this next shot, this channel was a mud flat and we walked across to the little point:

These little formations are called "flower pots". I wonder if they are unique to the Bay of Fundy:

This is just a big rock, but it had a cool texture that almost looked like wrinkly fabric and I thought it might be the fossilized remains of something:

Yuck, green slime!! But wow, what a gorgeous brilliant green it is:

We left the shoreline behind before the tide came rushing back and stranded us. The grounds include a lovely park area with flora and fauna:

This cute squirrel was SO fat and well fed:

Dave made tea and coffee with his spiffy survival kit pop-can stove:

While I wandered over to the gazebo to relax:

And finally...you know you're in the country when the washrooms look like this:

Ooooh, that climb was almost like a mini tower climb! Funny, at first I thought your squirrel comment was about the rabbit before I scrolled down some more. I kept looking at the rabbit thinking that it really looked like a rabbit and not a squirrel :)
Great sequence of photos! It really shows your fun day together and the scenery so well!!

I loved this! Wonderful photos and what a beautiful area you live in. I'm so intrigued by those flower pots. And that "washroom" photo is classic - it looks like something from another time. Thanks for sharing this and have a great weekend!

Anne, those are beautiful photos -- you make even the slime look appealing!
I've haven't yet seen the Bay of Fundy, but now I definitely want to visit it!
