Yes, you read that correctly - I said "we"...
Maria and I will be flat-mates in Venice! She has an extra sofabed in the apartment she is renting, and I am going to take the train up from Florence and stay with her for a few days - how amazing is that?!? I am so excited to meet her! It sounds like we have similar interests, and similar approaches to sightseeing - that is, pretty relaxed and not minding if we miss a "must see" sight because we stumbled upon something else along the way.
I'm also looking at a different place in Florence (I know, it's the third time I've changed my mind...but whatever.) I happened across a listing for a cute little studio just by the Ponte Vecchio in the Oltrarno area and couldn't resist it. It's pretty basic, very tiny, has no washer and is on the sixth floor...yikes, you say, why would she possibly want to stay in such a place?! Well, check out the really cool view (which is verified by the reviewers) before answering that question...and it's so close to both the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace, both of which I want to spend copious amounts of time in admiring the art, so the location is perfect. I've been in contact with the owner, and am just waiting for word on the price. I don't want to pay much more than the room I have reserved now, but if the price is in the ballpark, I'm going for it!

WOWEEEEE!!! That is so exciting! I am going to be soooo jealous! Such a great price for the studio and much bigger than most if not all single hotel rooms in Florence. The location is also perfect! I can't wait til you get there to start reading about all of your fun!

Hi Anne, great news! I think you and Maria will get along so well. I'm so excited for the both of you. And I'm looking so forward to reading about all of the great experiences you'll both have together exploring Venice.
And the view of that studio in Florence looks awesome!
Have a great evening Anne!

The apartment looks fabulous and it's perfect for you. You’ll have a splendid view of the city! I'm so jealous!
I’m so excited to have you as a roomie! It’s going to be so much fun to wander around Venice together and see some of the wonderful churches Annie had blogged about. I was reading the thread about the new bridge and it’s gorgeous. I can’t wait to see it!

I'll put this on Maria's blog too - not sure what your exact dates are but I just found out that the "Little Market of the Miracles" is taking place on Oct. 11 and 12. It's an antique/junk market in the campo right next to the Miracoli church; I went to it a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun!

I know, this is SO exciting!
Maria, I haven't read that one yet (was away for a couple days on business and now behind in everything!) But I am interested in seeing the new bridge, it was under construction when we were in Venice last summer.
Annie, that sounds cool!! I was thinking of arriving on the 13th, but maybe should rethink that! I'll check with Maria once I'm caught up on everything.

That sounds really cool - and it's neat (crazy using that word but it is) that you're hooking up and spending time together.

Anne, that sounds like a wonderful plan you've developed with Maria --you're going to have such a great time!
And I like the look of the studio apt in Florence, it does look small but wonderful, big windows. And the owner's site does say an elevator goes as high as the fifth floor -- so maybe it won't be too bad a climb!

Sandra, just think of all the gelato I can work off climbing those stairs!
