Who says civil servants don't have fun at work? Just got this email from our departmental "ReThink Committee", which is a group of volunteers doing their part to make us more environmentally friendly. (Round of applause for them!)

Subject: Climate Impact of Airplanes
Did you know that aviation has by far the greatest climate impact of any transport mode? CO2 emissions from international aviation currently account for 4 to 9 % of the total climate change impact of human activity, and they continue to grow.
That’s why the ReThink committee wants you to test your flying skills - at a Paper Airplane Flying Contest!
When: August 19, 2009
Time: Contest 1 at 12:30, or Contest 2 at 1:00
Place: 8 North Training Room
Bring your own printer or copier paper from the recycle bin so you can build your own machine. You’ll have about 10 minutes, then we’ll have a flight competition and award a prize for the airplane that flies the farthest.
If you don’t want to build or fly, come and cheer on your favourite flyer! Or just come to learn about carbon offset credits and becoming carbon neutral.
The ReThink Committee
P.S. If it’s been a while since you built a paper airplane, check out these web sites:

And now, if you'll excuse me, I must go practice my airplane construction technique! ;)

LOL! I wish I had fun at my job, alas, hospitals are not fun environments though. Please show us photos of your paper airplanes.

Hi Anne, I love the name "Rethink" committee. :) It's always great to have a good sense of humor at the office...
Have a good day!

You're right, Annie, these things do seem to keep people's spirits up!
Kathy, it would be a drag to work somewhere that lacked humour. I'm also glad my department has some creative minds to come up with these ideas!
