New year's eve at the camper

Thought I'd share a few photos from our fun-filled NY Eve at the camper...what a great time we had!

Mark and Valerie went down in the morning and got things set up...

Dave and I arrived with the girls shortly after lunch...let the good times roll!

We had great fun playing Scattergories and Cranium (which Valerie and I had won the last time we played, so we *let* Mark and Dave win this time...teehee)

After supper (a very tasty shepherd's pie, if I do say so myself), we gathered around our bonfire...

...roasted weiners and marshmallows...

...shared stories and laughter and goofy hats...

...and enjoyed the warmth of friendship...

(The warmth of my snowsuit didn't hurt either!)

The night was gorgeous, cold but not frigid, and brightened by the light of a blue moon...

Surprisingly, there was another group of folks spending NY Eve at the campground. They had a massive bonfire, chowder and spaghetti, cases and cases of beer, fireworks...these guys meant business as far as being there to party! We went down a couple times to have a drink and watch the fireworks, but didn't stick around too long. Kind of the best of both worlds for us because we were able to enjoy a brief flash of party time, and then return to our own small family affair. Apparently our little Boler had made quite a splash in the campground...many of the folks at the party had taken note of its arrival a month or so ago, when we moved it to its new home. I fear I might be known as "the Boler chick" among that crowd forevermore! Oh well...I've been called worse ;) lol

The *inferno*...

Ringing in the New Year with fireworks and sparklers...

Apparently there is a New Year's Eve tradition that what you are doing as the year changes is a harbinger of what you will do in the year to come. Sounds good!! I can get into spending lots of time relaxing at the campground with my beloveds! ♥

We packed it in around one o'clock (ish?) Dave and I slept in the Boler, Mark and Val shared their mansion-on-wheels with the girls. I slept ok (will sleep better next time, now that we have extra foam padding - the existing mattress was quite thin and my hips were not impressed!) But we were plenty warm. The furnace stayed on all night, didn't really heat the place up, but it definitely cut the chill. I woke up off and on through the night, got up around 7am and walked up to the washroom to brush my teeth etc. (The campground washrooms and showers are closed for the winter, but there is a washroom in the laundromat that is open 24/7 all year round - bonus!) Then I went for a stroll around the campground, and walked out on the frozen pond a little ways (not far though).

The misty grey morning light was quite beautiful...

Eventually the rest of the family arose, and we had coffee and breakfast, played more games, had lunch, and then meandered on home. The morning after photo attempts were met with much resistance!

I hope all of you had as wonderful a New Year's Eve as I did! :)

Wow, camping in the snow. I'm impressed. Looks like a lot of fun!

Happy New Year!

Annie, it was a blast. I can't imagine TENTing in the snow, but when travel trailers and propane furnaces are involved, it's all good! :)

Happy New Year to you too!

Kathy (Trekcapri):

Hi Anne, Happy New Year to you, your family and good friends! It sounds and looks like you all had a wonderful time ringing in the new year!

Your photos are beautiful. The moon, the sparklets and the great smiles...thank you so much for sharing your holidays with us! From that special saying...looks like you will be having more good times with great people in 2010.

I'm sorry to be late in commenting, my blogroll still isn't updating so I decided to create a Blogline roll to make sure that I don't miss any great entries from my blogging friends...

Have a great day today!

No worries Kathy, you're not late at all, I just got this posted last night. We really did have a lot of fun, between the bonfire, the games, the laughter...if it wasn't *the* best NY Eve ever, it was certainly a contender for top spot!

Hope you are enjoying your day, I'm finding it a bit hard getting back in the swing of things after being off since Christmas Eve!

Oh Anne, it looks COLD! But I am sure being surrounded by family and friends kept your heart warm:)

Candi, it was "only" a few degrees below freezing! lol You're right though, our hearts sure were warm :)

Happy New Year,Anne. Sounds like a perfect way to ring in the New Year surrounded by those you love most!

Thanks Sheri, it WAS perfect! ♥

Hope you had a wonderful New Year's Eve too, and best wishes for a joyful 2010!

What a wonderful way to welcome the new year. It looks great but I am such a winter wimp I probably would not last... :) But spending time with friends and ones you love and treasure makes up for the cold winter, I'm sure.
Thank you for sharing.

Happy New Year!!

That looks like a blast. I've wanted to do something like this in the winter. Having the camper sounds like an excellent way to go. I hope you are having a good first week of the new year.

My pleasure Eden, it really was quite wonderful!

thanks Leslie, right back at ya!

Marta, you should give it a try if you have the chance, it's great fun! Nothing like a roaring bonfire in winter! (Especially when there's a heated camper to retreat to when the cold gets too much.)

Yikes -- I haven't been winter camping in years! But it looks like you had a wonderful time -- I love the photos of the fireworks, and the blue moon.

Happy New Year!

Your Boler is so cute! Love that you are the Boler chick! First thought for me of course was "brrrrrr"!!! Looks like you had a great time. I love Scattergories. Have never played Cranium. Happy New Year!!

Sandra, that was my first time winter camping! Not my last though, was great fun!! It was "only" -5C or thereabouts, so between the fire, friendship, and a few drinks, we really didn't feel very cold :)

girasoli, I was a bit sceptical of the Boler at first, but now I love it! Cranium Wow is a blast. Has a whole range of clues and activities from drawing and sculpting, to trivia and word puzzles, to acting out like charades, and humming songs for your partner to guess. Really is a great party game!

It looks like great fun, Anne! Your photos are wonderful!

Happy New Year!

thanks Nancy, I just realized most of the photos were taken by Valerie, but oh well...what's hers is mine, apparently! Happy New Year to you too!! I'm still in a state of shock that it is 2010 already...
