Saturday Photohunt: Bridges

As usual, I have far too many possibilities and struggle to choose just one photo for this week's theme of bridges! This is an ancient Roman bridge over the Ouvèze River that run through the lovely town of Vaison-la-Romaine in the Vaucluse section of Provence. The bridge connects the old medieval hill town to the lower town. I crossed over it a few times during our week in Vaison. The engineering and workmanship (workpersonship?) are remarkable! This bridge withstood bombing during WWII, and was the only bridge to survive massive flooding and mudslides in 1992 that swept away all other bridges, and parts of the town's buildings.

I really like the light in this particular photo. (The view is of the lower town.)

Here are a few more shots of the Roman bridge...

Another view from a different vantage point, still looking across at the lower town...

The following two are almost the same scene, but one photo was taken in the day, the other at night. I'm intrigued by the shift in the appearance of the buildings.

This night scene reminds me of something Picasso might have painted...

Its a beautiful shot, and that bridge certainly has an impressive history!

Wonderful sequence of shots for this week's photohunt. I like the different views and times the shots were taken.

YTSL:

Great shots, and I can see how you couldn't limit yourself to just one. :)

Love this ancient bridge and lovely town!

the bridge has a lot of character. love it.

I love the sequence of your photos, the different perspectives, and the the ability to see the detail stone work in some of them. I immediately thought of pictures shown in an art history class where the professor was describing the building of arches in ancient time.

Mike:

Wow! I saw Radiohead in concert in Vaison-la-Romaine in 2001! Beautiful photos!
