2013 France and beyond Archives

October 11, 2013

Bonjour, mes amis...I'm baaaack!

I've decided to keep all of my trip information together in one spot, so will be moving my travel notes from my 2011 and 2013 trips over to this blog...this will take a while! (Probably months...hopefully not years! lol)

First to come will be reports of my most recent trip - a wonderful time with my mother last spring. Over the course of a month, we stayed in London, Paris, Vaison-la-Romaine (Provence), Nice and Barcelona.

This particular entry is a test to make sure I've remembered how to post on the moveable type platform (it's been two years after all.) But more to come soon.

I leave you now with this lovely (if I do say so myself) photo from Paris...

Our next great adventure: France and beyond!!

(originally posted March/13 on my other blog...I'm reblogging here to have all my trip entries together.)

The time draws near for our trip. This time Mom and I are spending almost three weeks in France, plus a couple days in London and ending with five nights in Barcelona. So exciting!!

We'll be flying direct from Halifax to London, and spending our first three nights at the Arosfa Hotel. Not enough time to do more than get a taste of London, but the things we have on our wish list include: St. Cyprian's (described as "the most joyful church interior in London"), Westminster Abbey, The British Museum, and The National Gallery. We have tickets to Les Miserables, so that is a definite - woot! We plan to end our London leg by going to the choral matins at St. Paul's on Sunday morning, before catching the Eurostar to Paris. (I'm a tad anxious at the thought of being on a train travelling under the Channel, but I'm sure I'll be fine...I just won't focus on the fact that I'm in an underground tunnel with tons and tons of water bearing down on me! lol)

Hi London...we're here!

(April 2013)
After a relatively painless (and mostly sleepless) overnight flight, we arrived at Heathrow and decided to take a tube ride to our hotel. The directions were to take the Picadilly line toward Cockfosters Underground Station...*snicker* went my inner 14 year old...

Onward ho to our hotel, the Arosfa on Gower Street.

We were warmly greeted by the lovely Liga, checked in and then headed out to see to St. Cyprian's Church. St. Cyprian's is only open a couple hours a week: during mid-week low mass Thursday at noon and again during Sunday morning high mass. We planned to attend St. Paul's on Sunday, so we rushed over Thursday as soon as we dropped our bags in our hotel room.

We took the tube to Baker Street Station, which claims to be the world's first underground station - cool! Walking to the church, we passed 221b Baker Street and the Sherlock Holmes museum...
