The Final Four

Well, my Tar Heels are still alive and have made it to the Final Four! Twelve days ago, there were 64 teams in the tournament and now there are only four (North Carolina, Kansas, Memphis, and UCLA).

To win the National Championship, you have to win six games in a row. Four down, two to go for the Heels, but the competition gets tougher with every game. And this year, for the first time in history, the Final Four teams are the four Number One seeds which means that the teams left are the best in the country (no Cinderellas this year).

We play Kansas on Saturday night which means a whole week for the excitement and anticipation to build. I’ll be bouncing off the walls by then. Go Heels!

Just to show that indeed, everything is connected...hoops in Venice! In December, I found this basketball court at the base of the campanile of the church of San Francesco della Vigna.

Another hoop, this one next to the campanile of the church of San Giobbe. I knew there was a reason I took these photos!

And in other basketball news, Barack Obama's bracket. He's a big college basketball fan and he picked the Heels to win it all!

GO TAR HEELS!!!!

Did you know that Barack Obama played basketball here Hawaii when he was in high school? He was known as Barry back then. I think he played on a team that won the state championship.

Thanks girasoli! And no, I didn't know he played in Hawaii! Barry? LOL. I like that.

Final Four! Whoo Hoo! I caught the game on Saturday and that 2nd half was a nail biter. Hansbrough made some clutch baskets. They're all very good! I'll keep cheering your Tar Heels on for sure.

Cool basketball net photos Annie. An ocean apart but so much in common.

Hey Kathy! Yes, Hansbrough was completely clutch in that second half - he reminded me of Jordan. Refusing to lose. I hope they can keep it up.

I loved finding these churchyard basketball courts in Venice - good way to use the space!

Kathy (Trekcapri):

It even looks like there is a soccer field outline on that first photo too, so you're right about their ability to make use of space.

What's that saying, where there's a will . . . there's a way! It's true. Someone always has to step it up for the team to get the big "MO" going and Hansbrogh (like Jordan) did it.

Enjoy the game on Saturday, I'll be cheering for your Tar Heels.
