Those are great photos, and there IS something very different about her expression compared with other Madonnas....her eyes are so much larger and more expressive than many icons show. Almost a modern look!

Wow, definitely worth being on the favorite list. I am not sure if I would have even noticed her walking by that wall. Where is she located?

It almost looks First Nations art, complete with ceremonial head-dress! Very gorgeous and serene. I love these shrines. I'm looking forward to seeing "my" shrine in Florence (the one just the apartment I'll be staying in again.)

Oh Leslie, thank you so much! What a beautiful thing to say.
Sandra, I agree and I wonder if she is relatively modern; it's hard to tell. I want to find this one again on my next trip and have a closer look.
Girasoli, I'm out of town at a conference but when I get home, I'll look at my photo files and figure out where this one is. I will be able to tell by looking at the surrounding photos. And I hope you have a WONDERFUL trip if I don't talk to you before you go!
Anne, I had not even thought about that but she does look "First Nation" ! Maybe she's the universal mother and that's why I like her so much. :)

Hi Annie, wonderful photos. I can see why this is in your top 20 favorite list. Very different and so interesting to study.
I'm also learning so much from your blog. Looking forward to your next entry.

Beautiful shrine and Madonna! I love the hearts that surround her and baby Jesus. The shrine looks rather small in comparison to the oval window.

Girasoli, as best as I can tell, this one is is in Cannaregio somewhere close to the church of Santa Fosca.
Kathy, thank you!
Maria, I like the hearts too. Those are another thing that makes me wonder if this one is relatively modern.
