Happy, relieved, and did I mention HAPPY!

Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again

Altogether shout it now
There's no one
Who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again

Happy Days Are Here Again:

Today, the song is probably best remembered as the campaign song for Franklin Delano Roosevelt's (FDR) successful 1932 Presidential campaign. Since FDR's use of the song, it has come to be recognized as the unofficial theme of the Democratic Party. The lyrics suggest optimism and buoyancy. (Wikipedia)

And I've got another song running through my head today. When I was a kid, I sang in the church Youth Choir. It was the 1970's and we were into singing all these cool songs like "Blowing in the Wind" and "Morning Has Broken" and of course, that classic "hippie" church song, "Kum Ba Yah."

We also sang this one, which was recorded by Mama Cass Elliott after she left the Mamas and the Papas:

New World Coming

There's a New World Coming
And it's just around the bend
There's a new world coming
This one's coming to an end

There's a new voice calling
You can hear it if you try
And it's growing stronger
With each day that passes by

There's a brand new morning
Rising clear and sweet and free
There's a new day dawning
That belongs to you and me

Yes a new world's coming
The one we've had visions of
Coming in peace, coming in joy, coming in love...

Kathy (Trekcapri):

Hi Annie, yes Happy Days and Better Days to come for sure! Whoo hoo! I'll sing along . . . all the way to the White House!

Love this post Annie!

Thanks Kathy! I can't believe they are still counting votes in North Carolina, LOL. I still have hope that NC will turn it blue!

Have a GREAT time in Spain!

Anne:

Awesome post!!! We are doing the happy dance up here in Canada too! There was a huge party at the World Trade & Convention Centre in Halifax on election night. There's a large black population in this area, and there were more than a few tears of joy at this affirmation of equality in our world!

I sang that song (Happy Days) all day yesterday!! Another song I have been thinking about is "Wonderful World". Great post!!

Wooohooooo NC is BLUE BLUE BLUE!!!!!!

Annie:

Anne, that is so cool to know that Nova Scotia was celebrating too! It really is such an amazing thing!

Girasoli, thanks so much for the confirmation that NC did it! Not only did we turn it blue for Obama, but we have our first woman governor AND a new Democratic senator. I really can't believe it!

Chiocciola:

Annie, I am thrilled!! NC, FL, and VA!! Just fantastic. And I am super excited about your new senator. She is awesome and really deserved it after Dole's nasty campaign.

Annie:

Chiocciola, can you believe it? I am still just amazed that it really happened. I loved your photos of the celebration in DC - I bet that is one happy place to be these days.

And yes, Libby Dole didn't even live in NC and really had no business being our senator so I'm happy about that one too!

Did you hear that Obama also got one of Nebraska's electorates? The count is now 365 for Obama!!!! I love that the country turned so blue this time!!

Hey Girasoli, yes I heard about Nebraska, pretty cool! Are they still counting votes in Missouri? Last I checked, that was still too close to call.

It really was a landslide. And he got over 50% of the popular vote!

I've been checking NC by county and even though it was very close statewide, it was an Obama landslide in my county (which makes me very happy!).

Missouri still is not declared. What is taking them so long? Are they counting the votes by hand??

I just saw on the Boston Globe website that the town where I grew up voted for McCain. The horrors! Good thing I don't live there anymore!! :)

I am now curious about the town by town breakdown in Hawaii. How did you find out about your state counties?

The county breakdown was in the newspaper. In the past, I think they've even done breakdowns by precinct but I haven't seen that one yet.

Yes, good thing you left that town in MA!

I still can't believe it really happened!!!
