This week's PhotoHunt theme is "Triangle."
Many triangles decorate the apse of the Basilica dei Santi Maria e Donato (also known as San Donato di Murano), a church built in 1140 on the island of Murano in the Venetian lagoon.
This is one of the oldest and finest churches in Venice. Inside, there's a beautiful golden mosaic of Mary, and amazing multi-colored Byzantine mosaic floors with foilage and peacocks.
You can find more Photo Hunters and join the hunt here. A few more photos of the church are below the jump.
Happy holiday weekend and happy Spring!

Hi Annie, awesome PhotoHunt selection! That's a very beautiful church and I love the mosaics inside of it. I didn't visit Murano in 2007 and now I wished that I had so I could've seen this wonderful church. The Triangle designs really stands out. The details on this church is pretty amazing!
Thanks for posting these cool photos and have a great holiday weekend too Annie!

Beautiful photos of this church. I thought I recognized it but couldn't place it til you mentioned Murano. It was closed when I was there. I only took a couple of photos. Wish I took more. Will have to go back again (darn it!). :)

Beautiful photos, Annie. I’ve been to Murano twice but never made it to the Basilica. I now regret not making time to visit it. The mosaic of the Madonna is stunning and so are the mosaic floors.
I see that you enjoyed perfect Venetian weather, with such blue, clear skies.

Visiting the church was every bit as fascinating and impressive as the glass on Murano. Thanks for posting and reminding me of it.
