Congratulations and best wishes to Kathy (Trek Capri) who has just adopted her first cat, a beautiful orange tabby named Elizabeth! I am so excited for Kathy and happy for this sweet two-year-old cat who really needed a new home.
Kathy, I hope that she brings you just as much joy and laughter as my girls have brought to me.
LuLu and Maria send best wishes to their new cousin too!
Here's my advice for a new cat owner. Cats LOVE enclosed spaces like closets and cupboards, and they are very quick. They can jump right in without you even knowing it, so be careful. Maria used to try to jump in the fridge and the freezer! One time I went to work and LuLu was stuck in a closet; I felt so bad when I got home and found her there. So now, before I leave the house, the very last thing I do is check to make sure the cats are out and about and okay. Keep an eye on the washer and dryer too; I never start either one up without making sure no one is inside.
I've posted this before.. Bastet, the Egyptian goddess who is the protector of cats (and the people who love them). She is looking out for you and Elizabeth!

And finally, a few great quotes that every cat owner should know:
"Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this." --Anonymous
"I love cats because I love my home and little by little, they become its visible soul." --Jean Cocteau
"If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat." --Mark Twain
"There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats." --Albert Schweitzer
What Cats Do for Us
Warm our laps...
Give us someone to talk to...
Help reduce high blood pressure...
Create a "kindred" feeling with other cat people...
Turn common household objects into cat toys...
Make us more aware of birds...
Donate their services as alarm clocks...
Display daring acrobatic feats in front of our eyes...
Contribute to living a longer life...
Make a window sill more beautiful...
Keep mice on the run...
Make us smile...
Inspire Poets and Playwrights...
Teach us how to land on our feet...
Let us indulge our desires to spoil someone...
Make our homes warmer...
Remind us that our life is mysterious...
Share with us the all-is-well purring experience...
Instruct us in the luxurious art of stretching...
Show us how to lick our wounds and go on...
Make even an old worn couch look beautiful...
Open our hearts...♥

Hi Annie, wow thank you so much for this wonderful and very touching Virtual Welcome Home Party for Elizabeth. I just love the posters from her virtual cousins, Lulu & Maria. :) Very adorable. I'm going to have to bring Elizabeth (once she becomes comfortable) over to the computer so she can see all of her blogging friends wonderful and very creative posts welcoming her.
Thank you so much for the additional tips. I'm going to have to put a sign to remind me of some of these important tips until I make it a habit.
I love the quotes and your list of special things that cats do for us when we open our hearts and bring them into our lives. I look forward to experiencing the joys, fun, surprises, warmth and lessons that I will learn and feel with Elizabeth in my life. Thank you so much again to you and to all of my blogging friends for the support and encouragements so I may experience what you already know. Cats are beautiful and wonderful companions... okay, I'm about to tear up now, so I shall end my super long comments. :)
Have a wonderful and fun snow weekend! And tell Lulu & Maria that Elizabeth says "thank you so much for the welcome home sign and virtual party".

Annie, I love Maria and LuLu's welcome notes! And some excellent words of advice about cats' love of small spaces.
Wonderful words about cats as well -- I especially like the idea that they open our hearts!

Thanks everyone! I had hoped that I could convince one of my girls to wear that "welcome" sign around their necks but hey, they are cats and were not cooperative at all with that plan. :) So these photos of them sitting beside the sign were the best I could do.
This Virtual Kitty Shower has been a lot of fun!

What talented kitties you have to make those wee signs and everything. I am impressed. Clearly dante and beckett need some sort of remedial lessons!

I didn't know about the virtual kitty shower until I read all of the posts.
I loved all of your advice for Kathy, especially the part about the washer and dryer. Wow! I would never have thought of that!

I used to live with a cat, and she used to sleep in a cardboard box in my closet! I wanted to get rid of the box, but I didn't want to get rid of her bed. LOL
