A few photos from the Earth Day parade at Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance in Silk Hope, NC. Kids of all ages were having a blast as the parade followed musicians around the Shakori farm. The puppets are from NC artists/activists Paperhand Puppet Intervention.
I had a busy but very fun Earth Day weekend. I went to Shakori on Saturday and then the Grand Re-Opening of the NC Museum of Art on Sunday. Will blog about our awesome new museum soon!

Looks like a great time, especially for kids!
Jack Johnson performs at the Shell in Waikiki every year here for Earth Day. He does a lot for the environment and for schools.

You look as though you make a big effort with this. Here in the UK Earth Day goes virtually unnoticed. If it weren't for Google's title graphics I wouldn't have known it was happening.

Hi Annie, what a really cool event for Earth Day. I love all the large puppets and the come together and festive atmosphere with the parade, food and entertainment this event has. The photos are wonderful and everyone looks like they are having a lot of fun.
Thanks so much for sharing and I am looking forward to seeing more of your fun weekend photos of this event. Have a great day today.

Andrew, what's amazing is that this was only one of many events that were happening for Earth Day around my area. Not sure if it's that way all over the US, but it's definitely a big deal where I live.

Sounds like a fun-filled weekend. Sadly, Earth Day seemingly goes unnoticed here too. It is a day of volunteering to clean up one's neighborhood -- guess that keeps it alive. Now, when I was a kid, a parade like that would have scared the life out of me...I was a whuz
