S's I love!

Girasoli did this entry in her blog about things she likes that start with the letter G. And she offered letters to other slow travel bloggers, who did a great job with the letters they were assigned.

The letter Girasoli assigned me is S. At first I thought I will have hard time coming up with ten things I love that start with S, but once I put my thinking cap on, ideas just started flowing, so here we go:

1-Slow Travel, both the website and the style. For those of you unfamiliar with the site, you need to check it out. It has loads of travel information around the world really, and it also offers forums, where your travel questions can be answered and great tips can be found.

I have always loved traveling slow, and was absolutely thrilled to find the website. Slow travel allows me to get immersed in the culture, and actually know the place I visited , rather than having vague distant memories of travel stops I hopped on. It is the way to make a vacation a true vacation; relaxing, enjoyable and memorable.

2 Sunshine, Sunset and Sunrise , I could not live without the sun. I know many of you are thinking"Well, no one can live without the sun", but I really need the sun everyday, I learned that living in Spokane, where the sun did not shine very often in the past couple of months. It was good for my spirit, to get back to a place where the sun shines..everyday.

I also love both sunsets and sunrises. I love that orange red color that takes over the blue/black sky when the sun sets/rises.Here is a photo of a beautiful sunrise as seen from the top of Haleakala couple years ago.

3 Salmon, I love many fish, especially salmon. I normally bake or grill my salmon, with lots of lemon juice, mint, garlic and parsley. With a side of mashed potatoes and green beans, and it is a quick, healthy and delicious meal.

4 Sandy Beaches, OK, I love rocky beaches too, but I needed the word to start with S. I can spend hours, laying on the beach, reading my book, listing to the waves crashing, and smelling the ocean.

5 Snorkeling, I've never done snorkeling until I got to Maui couple years back, and since then it has become one of my very favorite activities on the island. I love looking at photos and descriptions of fish on the island, then going to look for it under water. I am so happy when I recognize some of the fish I see. And I especially love spotting turtles. (Black Rock on Maui is great for that).

6 Saddling up, I love horseback riding. And I also love taking care of the horses. Grooming and tacking my horse are just what I need to get excited about riding and bonding with my horse.

7 Siena, even though I only spent one day in Siena, I absolutely loved it, and I long to go back.

8 Salsa , both the dip and the dance.

9 Summer, my absolute favorite season.

10 Stones, Statues and Sculptures , I have said this maybe million times by now, but I love stones, old stones. I love sculptures and statues, and these three S's are part of the many reasons I love Italy.

Candi, I loved your list. And that is an AMAZING photo of a sunrise.

Jane:

Candi, I really appreciate your picture of Haleakala as when we made the same trek at 4 am we could not even tell there was a hole in the ground. The fog was so thick and drippy and cold that it was miserable. Maybe some day we will try again. In the meantime, I'll see it through the eye of your camera.

Super list! I love just about everything on your list. I have only been to Maui once but did see an awesome sunrise at Haleakala. Beautiful photo! Glad you are back in the islands for more warmth, sunshine, snorkeling, and sandy beaches!

Great post for "S". Love your photo of the sunrise-I've been there several times, but have always been too lazy to get up so early to go see the sunrise. Sleeping in always wins out. Maybe in April...

Kaydee and Jane, thanks for stopping by. \

Girasoli, I am so glad to be here. Hey, maybe it is time you take another trip to Maui, ha?

Cindy,of all the time we spent on Maui, we only made it to Haleakala for the sunrise only one time couple years back. So I know what you mean about sleep winning. However, I do think that sunsets are also equally amazing, so.. this is our excuse, we saw many sunsets there.

Kathy, Salsa is one my favorite latin dances.

Annie, old stones amaze me.

Kathy (Trekcapri):

Hi Candi, you have an awesome "S" list! All of your photos are wonderful and especially that gorgeous sunrise on top of Haleakala. Oh and the Salsa (both of them)! :)

Great collection Candi! Have a great weekend!

Great list! I love old stones too (part of why I love Venice so much). That sunrise photo is gorgeous!

sheri:

I love your list,Candi. The photos, especially the sunrise, are beautiful.

Marcia:

On our first trip to Italy, we spent a day in Siena and I knew it was not enough. A few years later our daughter did her study abroad trip there, and we were able to spend more time when we visited her that spring. I could go back and spend even more time in Siena.

Kim:

Great list Candi and I found the sunrise! Do you know, I've never been to Haleakala. Every time we've been to Maui, we talk about going but never do. Now we feel like if we ever do go, then we won't have a reason to return to Maui and we don't want that to happen.

Oh, Kim, you should go to Haleakala this time if you get a chance. You will STILL want to come back to Maui. It is such an amazing place.

Great list - and I think we have a lot in common! I love salmon, I go salsa dancing all the time, summer is by far my favorite season, I adore beaches, I love horses and horsebackriding, snorkeling and Siena!

Wow Chiocciola, just like we were separated at birth:)

Yes! If you ever come out to this side of the US, we should hang out! It isn't Hawaii, though, that's for sure...

Anne:

Fantastic list, Candi!! I absolutely adore so many of the things on your list! What gorgeous photos you have posted too. Thanks for this post!
