The theme for this week's photohunt is hands.
It took me a while, going through my photos to find a hand representation I like.First I was going to go with some sculptures from the Vatican Museum, then I decided to stay closer to home and go with Hula Hands.

The hula is a dance that was developed in the Hawaiian Islands by the Polynesians. It is performed by men and women, and is accompanied by a chant or a song(mele). Hula tells the story of the chant with swaying hips and beautiful hand gestures.
From Alternative Hawaii:
Every movement in hula has a specific meaning, and every expression of the dancer's hands has great significance. The movements of a dancer's body might represent certain plants, animals, and even war. For example, in imitating a shark or waving palm tree, the true hula dancer believes he or she becomes the shark or palm.
It is a very beautiful and gracious dance. I took the above photos in a Luau we went to couple years ago in Lahaina. Here is an example of ancient hula on Youtube.
Beautiful hula hands.

I remember when I was a child, my mom sent me to a dance lesson and one which I learned is the hula. It was one of my fondest memories of childhood.

So many of the Eastern dance forms use specific hand gestures as a vital part of the "message" of the dance. Probably goes far back to when humans hadn't yet developed a sophisticated language. A hand gesture conveyed the meaning the voice couldn't, yet.

Jerry, I tried to take hula lessons the first time I was here about three years ago, well, it was harder than I thought it would be and I gave up.It was a lot of fun though:)

Props for your originality!

Excellent info about the hula. I recently had the fortune of seeing some hula dancers in action. Not in Hawaii, sadly, but authentic none the less. Pretty amazing. Great shots!
