After touring the windward side of Oahu, we started off the next day heading towards the north shore. It was such a beautiful day, and we were only sorry we had just the half a day to explore this gorgeous side of the island. I did not take notes that day, so the sites we saw are not in order, and I hope I am not leaving anything out.
Oahu's north shore is considered to be the surfing mecca of the world. Every December, north shore beaches host three competitions that make up the Triple Crown of Surfing. I would love to see the surfers catching a tube ride on the north shore when the surf is up( it can be as high as 20 feet). We will have to take a trip one winter to see that.
The biggest settlement in the north shore is Haleiwa town. A nice little town with a big personality. Haleiwa is located on Waialua Bay, which is surrounded by Haleiwa Beach Park on the north side, and Haleiwa Alii Beach Park, on the south side. The views are beautiful, and standing on the south side, the bridge across the Anahulu River offers a nice view. Here are couple photos that Bill took.

Sunset Beach is one of the north shore beautiful beaches, and it is home for some of surfing competitions in the winter.

One of our stops was at Turtle Beach. A very beautiful and unique beach, that is famous for sea turtles spotting, and has the most beautiful rock formation.

We had a fabulous day exploring Oahu's north shore, and I can see why girasoli says it is her favorite part of the island.
After a full weekend on Oahu, we took the fifteen minute plane ride back home, It was like flying between two paradises, each is amazing in its own way.

Hi Candi, the North Shore is one of my favorites on Oahu. Thank you for sharing your wonderful photos and your experiences. And you're right about the 15 minutes separation between two paradises!
Have a great day and thanks again. I really enjoying reading your posts about your wonderful weekend on Oahu!

What a fabulous way to spend your last day in Oahu. Great photos of Turtle Beach. And you were able to photograph one in the water!

Kathy, I liked the North Shore too. It is hard for me to pick favorites because I have not spent a lengthy enough time to decide. But I would love to spend more time on the North Shore.
Thanks for all your nice comments.
Maria, actually Bill took the photo of the turtle in the water. And I think girasoli had photos of the turtle on the shore too, but but they never came out of the water for us.

After all the photos I took, I didn't get one good shot of the turtle in the water. I guess I spent too much time focusing on the goofy tourists! :)
Again, I am really glad you were able to make it over here. I had a great time. I only wish we had more time so I could have shown you more of the North Shore.
