PhotoHunt:rock

photohunter7iq.png

The theme for this week's photohunt is rock.

At first I had the idea of posting some of the many photos of the different amazing architecture and ruins of ancient Rome, which I am very much enchanted with. Then I started getting myself confused about the difference between rocks and stones, and I think I've always called them stone ruins, although at this point, I am really not sure of the difference between a stone and a rock, is it just the size?

The Merriam-Webster gives the following as one of the definitions of rock:" a large mass of stone forming a cliff, promontory, or peak". So I decided to go by this exact definition for my hunt this week; the cliffs on top of which Italy's Cinque Terre was built.

We had the pleasure of spending some time there last year, and we enjoyed every minute of it. It is an absolutely gorgeous place, with its rugged coastline, the houses that are built on the steep cliffs, and the terraces that hug the Mediterranean, I can't help but smile when I think of the time we spent there and look at our photos.

Happy photo hunting everyone and have a great weekend!

Hi Candi, beautiful photos and perfect choices for this week's theme! I loved my visit to CT and would go back there anytime. I also get confused between rocks and stones too so I'm glad that you looked it up. We were definitely on the same wave length this week. :)

Have a great weekend!

beautiful! Definitely somewhere I want to visit.

Anna:

Wow what an amazing place. That said I'm not sure I would care for the climbing with my dodgy leg! Happy weekend

What a gorgeous place. I haven't been to that part of Italy yet.

I had the same questions about stones and rocks!

Have a great weekend.

These are fantastic shots. So much beauty. I never even thought about the difference in rocks and stones. I use the terms interchangeably

Sue:

Great photos. Particularly love the first and fifth ones from the top! :)

Awesome and it fits your dictionary definition perfectly

Just breathtaking, Candi! I think I'm with Jams on this one, but it's just a stunning area - no wonder you love it!

A lovely collection. Seeing places like these, I always wonder about ability of people to build their dwellings in the most unlikely places.

Have a great weekend!

Wow! These are lovely photos! that place looks like a fun place to be :)

Oh my....my very first thought was....EARTHQUAKE!!! I wouldn't want to live there.

I'm glad you traveled to Italy for your rock photos. LOL

My rocks are now posted. Won't you try to stop by to view my photos today? Have a great weekend.

Eden:

Beautiful photos! All of them!

Those are some fabulous rocks!
How I'd love to be there!!

Great photos. Looks so beautiful there.

Those are excellent photos of Cinque Terre. The first two are great. We stayed in Manarola and I know exactly where you took the picture. Great choice for this week's photohunt.

WOW - it amazes me how people manage to carve out a village there - especially without the resources that we'd use today. Makes you wonder . . .

Have a great weekend.

jmb:

Wow, now that's a rock. Amazing photo of an amazing place. Good collection.
