The theme for this week's photohunt is surprise.
I struggled a bit with this theme until I started browsing our Italy album from last year, and found photos of a coastal town we visited that, up until now, I had no clue which it was. It's not like I do not obsess over travel planning and details, but a little mishap in the plans gave us a whole day, with a car in the beautiful Tuscany.
It just happened that last year, we were in Siena, and we had plans to go horseback riding in the Tuscany country side, an hour south of Siena. Unfortunately, at the last minute, plans were canceled(not by us). We could have mourned since we were looking forward to galloping in the vineyards, but we decided to look at the bright side; we had a car and a full gorgeous last day in Tuscany, so we decided to set out exploring! Since we needed to be in Rome that night, we decided to head in that direction. With a map, a GPS and a Christopher Columbus attitude, we started heading south and west towards the Mediterranean.
The whole drive was absolutely breathtaking, and after a while, I gave up on the map, and decided to just enjoy the scenery, and the beautiful towns. And this is how it happened, that one of the most amazing memories of the trip was stumbling upon this beautiful portal town that I now realize is Monte Argentario, and more specifically the photos are from the facing north, Porto Santo Stefano. And what do I know, they must have expected our surprise detour, and named the Piazza after me:)
Even though the surprising cancellation of our horseback riding was disappointing, the surprises the day held for us were amazing!
Happy weekend all and thanks for stopping by!

Hi Candi, wonderful post. You took some great photos (especially that last one). :) How very cool and exciting to see "Piazzale Candi"! What a fabulous surprise find for the both of you. I agree with your "Christopher Columbus attitude" (love that saying). Exploration and adventure can lead to some pretty unexpected and fun surprises.
Have a great weekend!
