The Other Zion: Kolob Canyons

We set our last day in Springdale to visit Kolob Canyons in Zion National Park. Unfortunately, that was the day the weather gods decided to treat us with thunderstorms. And even though the weather guy told us that the evening before, we decided to take the drive anyway and test our luck. We weren't lucky enough to turn the rain away, but we were lucky to get to see remote Zion; a part of Zion National Park just for the two of us. That was worth it.

Kolob Canyons is located just off I-15 and is about an hour drive from the main part of Zion National Park. The Kolob Canyons section of the park is not as frequently visited but its beauty is no way inferior. It has stunning scenery, bright red cliffs and serene surroundings. I learned that "Kolob" in Mormon scripture refers to the "star or residence closest to heaven'.

We didn't have much time before the thunderstorms hit to take a hike in Kolob Canyons, but we did drive around the park and stopped at the viewpoints. I look forward for another visit to Kolob Canyons, a heavenly spectacular place indeed!

Beautiful photos. Must have been amazing in person. I'm glad you were able to see some of it before the thunderstorms began. Me, I would have been hiding under the seat once the thunder and lightening started.

Oh... we are dealing with horrible vog today. Really thick and humid also. Even Kauai is covered. I could barely make out the planes overhead. My eyes are killing me and I left my eye drops in my car all day today (think they fell out of my purse) so I had to toss them since they were at the boiling point when I discovered them this afternoon. Most definitely not safe to use anymore.

This park is just stunning! I so want to visit and hike around it someday. It's awesome that you got to enjoy a piece of it, just the two of you :) I often find that adventures in the rain turn out to be among the most wonderful!

Wonderful photos! I'm really enjoying seeing this amazing place and learning more about it. I need to visit someday. :)

Hi Candi, I love what Kolob refers to in Mormon scripture. Heavenly is right. I'm so glad that you were able to see it before the thunderstorms.

Wonderful photos! I have also really enjoyed your posts on your experiences at Zion National Park Candi. Thank you so much. Have a great evening.

The red in these cliffs is just stunning, you must have had a wonderful time visiting Zion. It's definitely going on my must-see list!
