We headed out this morning to buy a metro pass for each of us and were off to the Duomo.
Our first stop was a huge department store called Rinscente (sp?) right next to the Duomo. We recognized the name of this store chain from the ones we have been in before in Florence and also in Torino. This one in Milan did not resemble either of those.
We were looking for a parmasan cheese serving dish (like they have in the restaurants) but could only find a 60 euro one. Too much.
The other thing we were looking for was a knitted baby blanket and maybe a knitted baby outfit, but when we asked for help they told us they only had designer clothes. I asked which ones were Italian made and they led me to Dolce & Gabbana etc., all designer lines with the prices to match. No luck there.
So we went up to the 7th floor to take a look at the view...well, there are restaurants there and we weren't ready to sit down and order anything, so used the toilets and took the elevator down to the -1 level were we went outside to see the Duomo.
We did a little walking around Corso V. Emmanule 11 and headed off to the Galleria V. E. There was something going on outside the front of the Duomo with a lot of teens shouting and a big screen was there sometimes showing these teens.
No luck at the pen store in the Galleria so we were off to pick up our tickets to see the Last Supper, in the rain. We took the metro there but it was still raining when we arrived. The place we were going was about a 10 minute walk from the metro station. We picked up our tickets and were told to come back 5 mins. before our ticket time. Well, we were an hour early, thinking we'd walk around and see the area, but the rain gave us other plans.
We went into the cafe right across the street from the church and ordered espressos, water and pineapple. A great way to spend some leisurely time while it rained.
10 minutes before our ticket time we went over to line up for our visit. They were completely sold out and they only take 25 people in the room at a time. I am so glad I ordered these tickets online in advance.
It was amazing to see this masterpiece the width of the whole wall. It is fading and has needed some restoration over the years.
Our 15 mins. inside was up and we headed down the street to the metro after buying 5 postcards.
Yep, that is all we bought in Milan, 5 postcards.
Gelato stop on the way back to the hotel and sandwiches and fruit from the grocery store next door. Too tired to do anything else today.
An afterthought would be to visit Milan and do the running around, then go to Bellagio to rest, relax and chill out for the 5 days.
More Saturday.....or later next week.

Wow, I envy you -- I'd love to see The Last Supper. Someday.....
I know that feeling, when you set out to shop with a list of things you need, and in the end, find nothing you want (except 5 postcards!)
sandra,
I will have to get back over to your blog. Only had a few moments to glance over things. Now I will read it. Hope you had a great trip. I thought about you when we were in Siena. We decided not to go to Florence on this trip and now wish we had. You can only do so much.
We both enjoyed our visit to view The Last Supper. It is a lovely spot.
