GPS

The GPS was my son's hand held Garmin variety that he uses for hiking etc. It really did help us out quite a bit. We didn't get it until we were loading up the car to go to the airport and knew nothing about how it worked etc.
I found it to be a great distraction, since every time it sounded (with a beep) he'd take his eyes off the road to pick it up and look at it. This was frequent.
If we had it before the trip we could have experimented with it and known what to expect. I then could have played a role in its use.
