Home Safe & Sound

We arrived home tonight after a long day of travel while we gained 6 hours on our return.
Not pleased with British Airways crowded 747 for the return trip and their seating policy has made us decide we won't be flying with them again.
We booked these tickets 11 months ago, had to wait until 24 hours before the flight to pick seats and only had a choice of 3 seats to choose from. All other seats were taken or blocked out so we could not get them.
Not our kind of airline, besides a few other things we don't like about them. What's an 8 year old doing in the emergency exit seat?

I'm with BGE, I'll be taking Air Canada, most likely.

Well, hope to get up tomorrow morning at a normal time and fight off any jetlag.

I am always happy to be home.

Welcome home! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your photos!

I had the same experience, coming home last week on Swiss (and flying out as well.) Couldn't select a seat until 24 hours before I left and at that point, all but a handful had been chosen. I don't understand this.

I did ask at the gate, just before the flight from Montreal left (I flew Ottawa to Florence via Montreal and Zurich) how a person gets an exit aisle seat (and the extra legroom.) The check-in agent said those always go to Elite/Priority passengers who presumably have lots of frequent flier points.

I wonder if people booking online have better luck selecting seats at the time they purchase? I usually book airline tickets through a travel agent, for extra protection in case there are problems, but maybe that no longer is very effective.

Hi sandrac,
I booked online with BA this year and last year. WT+ (premier economy). Last year was before they changed their seating policy so I chose seats when I paid and then they switched them on me. I had to go in 24 hours of flight to re choose them and did okay last year. This year a choice of 3. There were kids there and their family gets to pick 3 days ahead and so do Gold and Silver club members, which we are not.
If I book with a charter airline I go through a travel agent, as well. TICO protects us.
We've decided no more flights with connections, as it seems to take forever and we are so worn out. We'll pay the extra to avoid this at our age.
Also, I found not sleeping on arrival in Rome and again when I got home yesterday, has helped me cope much better with the jetlag this time around.
