Chinese New Year Celebration in Kindergarten

Every Lunar New Year, I ask one of my friends to do an informative presentation on Chinese New Year. She is very good at presenting information to my students; she is an expert. To do this at the kindergarten level would have been a challenge for any one. But Mrs. G. is wonderfully patient with my students.

There is a Chinese New Year (picture) book that features her family in San Francisco. It shows the traditions and celebrations that revolve around this holiday. She read the story to my class.

She has a replica of a mask used for Lion Dance during the parade.

A couple of students "model" the lion head and we have a mini parade in our classroom.

Much to every 5 and 6-year old's delight!

The kids all look like they're having so much fun!

Love these colorful photos! I'd like to see this presentation myself. As I said on girasoli's blog, everything I know about Chinese New Year came from a Chinese restaurant placemat (so I don't know very much!).

Great post.

Anne:

Eden, the kids must have loved that!! That dragon mask is stunning, the colours look so vibrant. Thanks for sharing about Chinese New Year!

Amy:

What fun! I love that the kids could march with the mask. They'll remember that for sure!

Great post! I would love to get one of those mini lion masks for my kids to try on and pretend to do the lion dance. What fun!
