Perfect Do-Nothing Place

Taking a week off from summer school, and do nothing was a perfect self-prescription for an overworked kindergarten teacher. Marriott villas proved to be the perfect place for it! Check out my home away from home this week.

Granting that I could not get away from the Michael Jackson craziness / media mania, I decided that I could put up with anything when I am at a pretend state of retirement. :)

Here I am at this hot place - perfect for sun and heat loving me!

It looks like a true place in the desert... but the desert scenery stops there, I think.

Is this a cool sign or what? :) ..> says it all for me.

PhotoHunt - Garbage

PhotoHunters

Garbage - according to Wikepedia, is waste or an unwanted or undesired material or substance.

This pile which may qualify as garbage by the above definition, This was left in one of my bedrooms that was recently vacated by someone who we won't identify. The former inhabitant of the bedroom did not leave me with information regarding this pile... nor a forwarding address... Do brand new shoes some in boxes ( Bandolinos, Tory Burch, Enzo, etc...), beddings, paper shredder, clothes, suitcases, and many more become garbage when they are of no use to me? Been wondering about that and what to do with them!!!

On the other hand, I wonder why I was left with this to deal with? ... Perhaps that is the more important question!!!

Ok, now that I have vented, I feel better... :)

Happy Bastille Day!

In celebration of Bastille Day or perhaps to console myself for not being in Paris, I purchased some place settings -

Tree Hugger

Early this week, I met my family at a restaurant in nearby Dublin (California, not Ireland). After dinner and on the way to our cars, Mikey, my two year old grandson went around hugging trees. Hmmm, cute and grandma is wondering if his future will include tree-hugging environmentalist stuff... :)

PhotoHunt - ROCKS

PhotoHunters

I actually had forgotten about Saturday PhotoHunt because I have not been receiving the emails about the Saturday themes. It was not until I checked out Jerry's and Palma's blogs that I found out what today's theme was. Thank You, Jerry and Palma!

Early this month, I went to Palm Desert for a week and saw many sights there that were rock-oriented. The Marriott Resort had rock themed landscaping all over... here is a sample of resort rocks. (I actually took this because I was curious about the plant).

From Palm Desert, I went to visit a friend in Alpine, California. Mapquest took me through deserted desert roads... where I was the only human (it seemed that way) for miles and miles... So I would stop in the middle of the highway and take pictures... Not recommended! Some examples of photos -

This must be why they put the sign up. :)

Arriving in Alpine, I stayed with a former colleague who relocated there. Here is part of her 3-acre backyard. There are some rocks there too.

She seems to live in a resort herself... all in all a nice visit to the desert!

Izzy's graduation

My grandson, Izzy, graduated from PreSchool. The school had the works, caps, gowns, diploma, pomp, and circumstance.... Which is really good.

My school does not hold kindergarten graduation ceremonies. Graduation, it is said, is for upper grades... secondary education. Our sixth graders have a promotion ceremony, not graduation... So this PreSchool graduation was a treat.

I arrived a bit late and wanted to take a picture of Izzy.... he warned me to not make noise... He follows rules... that is good.

Here are some of his friends. Ladies man.

When the children received thier diplomas, the director told us about the children's heroes, what they want to be when they grow up, etc. Izzy's heroes are Ninjas. (I should have coached him to say Grandma. )

Corazon "Cory" Aquino

cory%20aquino.jpg

Corazon "Cory" Aquino passed away today. She battled colon cancer which spread to the other organs of her body. It is a big loss for the Philippines. She was the country's first woman president. She served from 1986 - 1992.

Fromer President of the Philippines, Cory Aquino, sparked a waved of pro-democracy movements after she ran and won the presidency to end the 20- year oppressive regime of Ferdinand Marcos. Her husband, Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino was a vocal critic and opposition leader of then president Marcos. Upon Ninoy's return to the Philippines after a long exile, he was gunned down at the Manila Airport. Her husband, Ninoy's, death thrust Cory into the field of politics.

She held office in the Malacanang Palace (President's palace) guest house and turned the ornate palace into a museum.

She remained active in the Philippine political arena. She is one woman leader many Filipinos are proud of.

It is sad to hear that she succumbed to an illness that can be curable if diagnosed early. I am a survivor of colon cancer, a lucky survivor.
