Corazon "Cory" Aquino passed away today. She battled colon cancer which spread to the other organs of her body. It is a big loss for the Philippines. She was the country's first woman president. She served from 1986 - 1992.
Fromer President of the Philippines, Cory Aquino, sparked a waved of pro-democracy movements after she ran and won the presidency to end the 20- year oppressive regime of Ferdinand Marcos. Her husband, Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino was a vocal critic and opposition leader of then president Marcos. Upon Ninoy's return to the Philippines after a long exile, he was gunned down at the Manila Airport. Her husband, Ninoy's, death thrust Cory into the field of politics.
She held office in the Malacanang Palace (President's palace) guest house and turned the ornate palace into a museum.
She remained active in the Philippine political arena. She is one woman leader many Filipinos are proud of.
It is sad to hear that she succumbed to an illness that can be curable if diagnosed early. I am a survivor of colon cancer, a lucky survivor.

Eden,
That is a great tribute to a great person. I loved reading her story. It is sad that many people loose their lives everyday to diseases that are curable if diagnosed early.
Cheers to Corazon Aquino for the great life she had lead, and to you for beating your cancer.
