Small Bites - Crab Roll-ups

Ida aka VicoGirl led us this week in the Sunday Small Bites challenge. Her chosen ingredient is Crab. Thank you, Ida. I love crab.

I went the Crab Roll-Up way, after looking at many recipes on the net. I decided to wrap mine in Cresent Rolls dough. I found a recipe on the internet that used this and I only tweaked it a little bit.

I used the following ingredients:
5 oz container of Dungeness crabmeat
3 stalks of green onions, minced
5 mushrooms, chopped finely
1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
1/2 cup shredded cheese... your choice
2 packages of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
2 tablespoons butter

Saute green onions and mushrooms in butter about three minutes or until tender. Add crabmeat. Stir to heat and mix thoroughly. Sprinkle Old Bay seasoning. Mix.

Take the crab mixture from the heat. Take the crescent roll dough pieces apart. Spread about a teaspoon full onto the wider part of the crescent roll dough. Sprinkle a pinch of shredded cheese on top of the crab mixture. Roll and form into crescents. Repeat until all dough pieces are stuffed. I made about 16 of them... there was enough filling to fill all dough pieces from the 2 packages.

When all dough pieces are stuffed, I pinched the ends to seal the stuffing in. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes.

My daughter who just came back from her 100 mile bike ride for MS as I was taking the Crab Roll-ups from the oven. So I asked her to be my taster this week. I had some too. We both loved it! I served two dipping sauces - Filipino Banana Sauce and bottled Sweet and Sour sauce. We both agreed the dish did not need any sauces.

These look yummy! I've never heard of banana sauce. I'd like to know about the flavor, ingredients and use.

I posted the following message on my blog, in reply to your comment:

The plantain cups are made by placing the once fried toston inside a small glass or coffee cup and smashing it down with a pestle.

Here's a link with the recipe:

Hi Eden, your roll ups looks so delicious. And your recipe looks so easy. The sauces looks really good too. I would like to try this wonderful recipe soon.

Thanks so much for sharing. Have a great day today! Btw, Kudos to your daughter for doing the MS 100 mile ride!

These do look so yummy, Eden. I'm going to Global Foods today, so I'll check the Filopino foods aisle for this brand. Are there other brand names you know of?

Banana sauce is similar to ketchup. It is popular in the Philippines. It is sweet and tangy. The brands that I know of are Jufran and Mafran. The bottles will state hot or mild for personal preferences.
