Classroom Pet

Oh my goodness! I really need to learn how to say "NO". Even to something as cute as this. Ok, it is not that cute. It is massive. It is about 7 inches long!

Before the winter break, one of my students (and family) had to move and relocate... victims of hard economic times in the Bay Area. So the family asked if I can keep the family's pet fish as they are unable to take the pet with them. Not wanting to learn later that their pet was sent to Fish Heaven (via porcelain bowl and tubes), I said "Oh yes, sure. The children will love it."

Ok, it's entertaining for the children. I am sure they are going to learn something science related about this some day (soon).... but

It is a lot of work, keeping the tank clean and remembering to feed the darn thing!

Hi Eden, that was so nice of you to save this little guy's life and give him a home and something for the kids in your class to observe. Probabaly makes the work caring for it worth it. Looking at your photos especially the cute one of his little face, kind of makes me feel guilty about liking to eat fish though. :)

Thanks for sharing.

I had a fish for our class once - Molly. I got so attached to her and was devastated when she died. Have not done fish since. I really should though...
