I decided to use this book for the today's theme.
Why? You might ask... The author wrote the book in the structure of japa mala - the prayerful meditation beads of India... which has 108 beads. So instead of the traditional books written and divided into chapters, this story is a string of 108 episodic tales.... divivided into 3 sections, Italy, India, and Indonesia...
Japa malas have a spare bead... making 109....
Here is a sample page showing the numerical tales...
Japa malas are supposed to be inspiration of the rosary beads...which Catholics use today. Here's mine.... :)

Hi Eden, very cool photo choices and take on this week's theme. Hope you are enjoying the book. I'm anxious to see the movie because of Javier Bardem :), I'm also a fan of Julia and because the story involves self discovery and travel. I haven't read the book yet, so maybe I should before I see the movie.
Thanks so much for the interesting information on the Japa Mala . . . Have a wonderful weekend.

What a great post. I love your creative take on the theme. I enjoyed the book but haven't seen the movie yet, though I intend to.
It's funny because I've been reading a blog lately that is doing 108 entries in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Ram Dass' book, "Be Here Now", also inspired by India and japa beads.
Happy weekend!

Before I got to the last photo, I thought of the rosary which my Roman Catholic family use. I don't as I am now a Baptist.
