Yuck! That's all I have to say! Time for them to crawl back under a rock and not be anywhere near your school.

Ick! Now I understand why you were so freaked out! Those are VERY different than the centipedes I know....the Hawaiian ones are scary looking!

Eden:

I know exactly how you all feel. They are even scarier looking in real life!

Two summers ago, I was visiting and staying with a friend in Hawaii Kai. They were having the perimeter of the house sprayed with something. When I was getting ready to go to bed aka my Aero Bed that evening I saw a huge centipede under the "bed". I totally freaked out. (I do not know what made me move the bed... good thing I did or it would have been on me, I think had I slept on the Aero Bed that night. I think the centipede came in to the house because of the spraying done outside.

We "took care" of the one I saw until a second one showed up from the other side of the bed. I got a pair of scissors out - but was told that if I cut it in half - I would end up with two live ones!!! Is that true?

In any case, I checked in at the Marriott in Waikiki for the rest of my vacation days... I felt bad about abandoning my friend and my bed at the friend's home, but I know that I would not be able to sleep there had I stayed. I figured there won't be any centipedes if I stayed in the hotel - 8th floor up... :)

Anne:

Ugh, huge shudders of disgust here!! My skin is crawling just looking at that thing. I say kudos to you for mustering up the courage to get back in the car! I don't even like our teeny centipedes, I can't imagine encountering a beast of that size, especially a poisonous biting one! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!

Jill:

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

I should've listened to the little voice telling me NOT to click. Those things are nasty looking. If I have nightmares you'll be hearing about it!

Now you see why I was so freaked out. I am still not comfortable getting in my car, wonder if a centipede will crawl into a bag in my trunk that I will then bring in my house, started thinking about what I would do if a centipede crawled out of the AC duct while I was driving, etc. etc., your basic centipede nightmares.

Eden, I have heard that also (cutting them in two) but can't remember if it is true or not. I don't blame you for staying in a hotel. I used to go camping at a certain beach park until I was told centipedes hung out there.

LEKILI:

I LIVE ON THE BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII. PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE HAS A REACTION OF SOME SORT TO CENTIPEDE BITES. SOME WORSE THEM OTHERS. THE TINY BLUE ONE ARE BY FAR THE MOST VENOMOUS. THEIR BITES CARRY THE WORST REACTIONS THOUGH THEY ALL HURT LIKE HELL. FOUND A DEAD ONE ON MY KITCHEN FLOOR THIS MORNING. MY SON MUST HAVE STEPPED ON IT THROUGH THE NIGHT KILLING IT. NOW I HAVE TO CHECK WITH HIM WHEN HE WAKES UP IF IT BIT HIM. MASYBE HE NEEDS MEDICAL ATTENTION.
