Here in Hawaii, New Year's Eve means fireworks. You don't need to look at your clock to know when it is midnight. I took this video at midnight last year on New Year's Eve. All the aerial fireworks you see in this video are illegal. Pretty tough to enforce this I guess. I live in a townhouse complex where fireworks are not allowed. People generally follow this rule. The noise factor (and smoke factor) in this video would be much different if I lived where fireworks were popping all around me.
Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!! Happy New Year!! Buon Anno!! Tanti Auguri Everyone!!

That dragon pic was at the back of San Marco somewhere, the opposite end to the cathedral. :)

G: Wow! Just like the Esplanade on the 4th of July - and these are homemade - bet the Hawaii fire department was busy.
Happy New Year! M

Happy New Year, Girasoli! Love the fireworks (which always look better from a distance!)
I hope you have a wonderful 2009 with lots of travel, and a lot fewer migraines and power outages.

The fireworks were even better this year. There was talk that there would not be as many fireworks due to the economy, but instead I think everyone skipped the legal fireworks and went straight for the illegal aerials. It really was amazing! I could only take about 20 minutes outside though. The smoke was very thick! From what I have seen on the news, only a few minor fires (I did hear the fire trucks roar by about 30 minutes or so after midnight last night). I took video at midnight and it is much better than the video I posted from last year. Not to bore everyone since on video, fireworks seem to all look the same, I will save the video for my next year's New Year's Eve post.
I like everyone's ideas...less migraines (although have been dealing with a 2 dayer right now), no car problems, no new power outages, and no eye problems (although again, dealing with more eye crap) and best of all more trips!!
I hope everyone else had a great New Year's Eve!!

I just saw Anne's comment on the "hope" post - I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with more eye problems. I hope you feel better soon! Do you have a bit more time off from work? I go back on Monday and I'm dreading it. :(

Amy, thanks! Yes, here's to hoping for a spectacular Sox year!!
Chiocciola, cin cin!! thanks!!
Annie, yep, it came back! This time I caught it earlier and it looks like it may be an ongoing thing which I am not too thrilled about. Something about inflammation is the eyelid glands producing too much oil. At least no more needles!! thanks for your concern. It is more of a hassle than anything else. I have 1 more week off...yippeee!! This is our last year having 3 weeks off...but that means an extra week in the summer instead which is also good. I know how you feel about dreading going back to work. It is so hard to get back into the swing of things after being off for a while.
