There are very strict guards that stand at the entrance of the church by the bottom of the steps. No backpacks or large purses are allowed inside the church. They are very serious about this rule. I even saw the guards turn away a priest with a backpack! I only had a minute to take the second and third photos before they told me to move on. I was not allowed to take any photos inside the church.

It's a fascinating church and your photos are great (glad you were able to get a few before they ran you off!). There are about 5 or 6 unfinished churches in Venice - I wonder why they never finished this one?

Beautiful! When I lived in Bologna I didn't have a digital camera and I really don't have that many photos from the year. So I am really enjoying yours!!

Barb, I am so glad I was able to share my love of Bologna with you.
Annie, I don't know. The only thing I could think of was that since the bombing years ago in Bologna, they stepped up security. The church was not finished because they ran out of money.

I'll have to be very careful to carry only a small bag when I visit this church -- the guards certainly sound strict! It's also interesting to see the half-finished facade -- I had read about it, but couldn't quite picture how that would look. It really is half and half!

sandra, I really don't know what was up with the guards but they were not budging an inch. I can't wait to hear what you think of the inside of this building. It is not ornate like the Duomo in Parma, but it is still very beautiful.
Marta, I am still behind on everyone's blogs and I didn't even go anywhere! You are one of my idol photographers. Your compliment on my photos really means a lot to me.
