Since mentioning the Hotel Porta San Mamalo a few times, I thought I would share some photos. If you don't mind a 10 minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, this is the place to stay when in Bologna. I am so excited that I will be returning there this summer!!

Thanks for these wonderful photos, and for turning me on to the Porta San Mamalo!!!
I'm very excited about staying here for a week, you and Palma both have said so many nice things about it.
And your photos help me to visualize what it will be like -- so often, the photos on a hotel's website show their very best suites, but not always what the majority of rooms actually look like. I can see these rooms are bright, light and very clean. (I shouldn't be so fussy, but I really care about where I stay!)
I'm so glad that you're getting some time in Bologna and can't wait to hear more about your plans.

I’m going to bookmark this hotel. The rooms look very spacious (a rarity in Europe) and beautifully appointed. Love the patio with the pretty well.

Looks like a wonderful hotel to me, girasoli. I am so excited for you returning to Italy. I wish I could be going this year too.

It sure looks like a great hotel and I will definitely keep it in mind for future trips to Bologna! Like Sandra said, it is nice to see photos taken by other travelers, not from the hotel website.

sandra, I do hope you love it as much as I do. The thing I find most frustrating is the lack of single room photos on hotels. I am also very fussy. I am having a difficult time finding a place I like in Stresa right now and might even change my itinerary and go somewhere else if I don't find somewhere I am comfortable with. There is nothing worse than staying in a hotel you are not happy with.
Kathy, thanks. I can't wait to return to Bologna again.
Maria, it really is a beautiful hotel.
candi, I wish you were going back to Italy also. Thailand sounds wonderful though.
Chiocciola, the bonus is that it is near that wonderful pasticceria you recommended. I think I might have to go there a few times on this trip.
