With the 2010 Winter Olympics fast approaching, I thought I would add an Olympic twist to my PhotoHunt post this week.
I took this photo of the balanced skier along with a few more photos below in Piazza Solferino in July 2006 while visiting Torino, Italy, a few months after the February 2006 Winter Olympics. I can't believe it has been almost 4 years since I visited this wonderful city.
A beautiful fountain with sculptures balanced on platforms.
Another view of the balanced sculptures by the fountain.
Two more figures representing some of the Winter Olympic sports. Various sports figures surrounded Piazza Solferino.
There are two atriums in Piazza Solferino. The atrium I visited was called
Atrium 2006.
Atrium 2006 housed images, films, and other information about the 2006 Winter Olympic games held in Torino. It was fascinating to explore, especially after watching many of the events on TV a few months earlier.
Piazza Solferino was not the only area showcasing the 2006 Winter Olympics. This symbol of the Torino Olympics was located just outside the train station
I also discovered the BC Canada House, located in Piazzale Valdo Fusi right behind the Hotel Victoria where I stayed. The BC Canada House was left to the City of Torino as a gift and legacy from the Province of British Columbia to the people of Torino and Italy.
Unfortunately, the 2010 Winter Olympics will be shown on NBC, a station I am not happy with at the moment being a huge Conan O'Brien fan - boo NBC!

Great take on the theme! I love your photos of Torino, especially that fountain.
Yeah, sorry about O'Brien, I don't follow late night so I really don't understand the full story here.

Hi Girasoli, great collection of photos and a great take on this week's theme. I am a huge fan of the olypmics too. You were so lucky to visit Torino shortly after they took place there. Maybe one day I will get to see these. The BC Canada House is really beautiful.
Is the O'Brien thing regarding Jay Leno return? If so, I agree with you. I like Jay but he left and Conan shouldn't have to leave just because Jay's show failed in the 10 spot. Booo from me too. :) Have a great weekend!

Candi, thanks! Jay Leno or NBC gave the Tonight Show to Conan O'Brien. Jay Leno had a new show at 10 pm (which I always thought was a stupid idea). It did not work out, so NBC wanted to put Jay back on after the news, which would push Conan's show back and would make it no longer the Tonight Show (even if it kept the name). This could also jeapordize Jimmy Fallon's show that comes on after the tonight show. Conan had class and refused. Many have been very upset with NBC and with Jay Leno (hard to say if he had much to do with it, but he could have refused himself and let Conan keep his show), so Conan's show ended Friday night and Jay Leno will again have the Tonight Show. I hope I got all of this correct as I have learned through our furlough situation that what you read in the news is not always the exact truth. Bottom line though is that NBC is replacing Conan with Jay.
Kathy, thanks! I was so excited to be in Torino after the Olympics were held there. It was really interesting seeing the BC Canada house in Torino. I would have loved to have gone inside, but unfortunately it was closed when I was there. And yes, the Conan O'Brien thing is regarding Jay Leno's return.
Carver, glad you enjoyed them. I was really surprised at how beautiful Torino was.

HA! I had a hard time coming up with one - you have quite a few that are great representations for this week's theme. Italians have such style! Love the Olympic figures! Doesn't seem possible 4 yrs have already passed. m

Wow a wonderful take on the theme. In two year's time I will be caught up in Olympic fever too - when the Summer Olympics are held less than 10 miles from my home. Have a great weekend

thank you for all these wonderful photos. Never been to Torino so this was an extra treat to see the fountains and all the Olympic exhibits.

We went to Piazza Solferino to visit the atrium when we were in Torino but it was all closed down and empty . . . sigh!
Lots of balance in your pictures this week - well chosen for the theme.

Great photos, Torino is very high on my must-see list!
And I'm with you on Conan and NBC. I've been a big fan of his for years -- even episodes of The Simpsons that Conan O'Brien produced were so much more funny/edgy than any other episodes.

Great job on the theme. I don't think I'll ever forget having the Olympics close to my home, when they were in Salt Lake City. There, of course are still many reminders of that around. I always enjoy getting around and seeing the different views of this weeks theme. Yours is cool!
Drop by and check mine here.

Some great photos - love those sculptures! I keep forgetting that the Winter Olympics are coming up. Seems like they just happened (time is flying by).
Hope you're having a nice weekend!

Great take on the theme! Having just been to Torino a few months ago, it was fun to see your photos.
I agree about the Conan-Jay thing. I taped Conan's final show on Friday - he had some really nice positive comments at the end of the show about his years at NBC and how much they have meant to him. Very classy.

menehune, I think this has been the fastest 4 years ever!
jams, thanks! Lucky you to be so close to the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Barb, you're welcome. I was surprised at how much I loved Torino. I hope you get to go there someday. I think you would enjoy it also.
Susanne, thanks!
Jerry, I guess the exhibition must have been taken down after a while. I always wondered how long it would be there. Too bad you missed it.
sandra, oh, you must go there some day. I have been a fan of Conan for many years also. I hope another network picks him up.
Bull Rhino, thanks! Interesting that there are still reminders of the Olympics in Salt Lake. I have never been.
Annie, I love the sculptures also. I wish I took more photos of them. Time sure has been flying by quickly lately.
nancy, I loved reading your blog posts about your recent visit to Torino. I really do want to return there again. I agree that Conan was very classy with how he handled everything. He certainly did not have to say anything nice about NBC on his final show. Loved the Freebird ending.
