Daffodils by William Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

The first of many bouquets from my flower garden. A sure sign that spring is on the way here, in the deep South of North Florida. While I don't have ten thousand, I do have a nice bunch of varieties that do well here; I've collected them over the years with the help of daffodil expert/artist, Linda Van Beck and the Florida Daffodil Society. Whether I am cutting them for inside, or walking outside admiring them, they really are a source of great pleasure.

Jan, this is one of my favorite poems! I also grow some daffodils in our yard-- also now blooming. And I also enjoy cutting them so I can have flowers inside. Happy springtime!

Those are really lovely, jan, and from your garden, too. Most of my spring flowers come from Trader Joe's, although they are certainly sprouting up all around me, in others' gardens.

Beautiful daffodils! I don't think they grow here, or at least I have never seen them here.
