All by Myself

I spent most of the day on my own, Den isn't feeling well and needed a day to rest and recuperate. After I came back from blogging in the Place des Voges, I picked up some medicine for him and dropped off the mac and back out I went (after he urged me to go and reassured me that he wanted me to enjoy the day and that he would be ok).

I went to the corner bakery and picked up a delicious ham/cheese/hardboiled egg sandwich with tomatoe and lettuce on a little baguette, and walked right back to Place des Voges, where I munched on my lunch (hey, I'm a poet!) and people watched for about an hour. I then leisurely strolled to St Chapelle and after a little wait, finally saw those beautiful stained glass windows. I sat there for about 30 minutes, enjoying the sun coming through the glass and changing the colours.

I took lots of pictures for Denis and then walked to Ile St Louis, where I sat at a little outdoor cafe, having a pressed lemonade (very refreshing) and again just watching the world go by. This is the kind of day I have been waiting for, I'm just sorry my hubby couldn't enjoy it with me. I walked slowly back to the apartment, stopping at the Monoprix for some pate, spreads and fresh baguette (I wasn't sure the bakery would still be open when I got back to the apartment). I am now sitting at the computer, having a glass of wine and some food, blogging about my day and relaxing. Den is feeling a little better, hopefully a good night's rest will have him back to normal tomorrow.

I kind of enjoyed being on my own today, I never felt weird sitting by myself having lunch or a drink, I am very comfortable walking everywhere and have a pretty good sense of direction and knew where I was going all the time, never having to look at my map even once.

We are just going to take it easy tonight and hopefully be raring to go tomorrow. I'd like to take the bus to the Arc de Triomphe and climb to the top to take some pictures and then slowly walk back to the Marais, stopping by Laduree for macaroons, Opera Garnier and the Madeliene church on the way home. I've made reservations at Robert & Louise for tomorrow night and Spring called to confirm our reservation for Friday night, so food is taken care of for the next few days.

Have a good evening everyone......................Jo

Sorry to hear that Den isn't feeling well, what a drag during a trip! But you're in Paris!!! How fabulous. And shopping for macaroons.......yum.

Somehow in Europe, I rarely feel odd eating a meal or sitting in a cafe all by myself. Here in Canada, however, it feels a bit strange.

Hope Den is feeling better! I know that I totally loved my "alone" time in Paris; it's an easy city to be alone in. Enjoy!
