5 days to go

We finally leave on Thursday night! After almost 8 months of planning, spending countless hours on the internet looking for new restaurants to try and new places to see, corresponding back and forth with Thierry, our landlord at Paris Best Lodge, booking tickets for the ballet at Garnier and Simply Red at the Olympia, making plans to visit Gerald Mulot and see how he makes his wonderful pastries, booking reservations at Gallopin after the ballet and scoring 2 seats at Spring once again (we are so excited about this one!), making plans to meet up with another Canadian who is lucky enough to own his apartment in Paris, and reserving our places to get David Lebovitz's new book signed by the author himself, we are finally ready to start our trip. Too bad we have to wait 5 more days, I just don't know how we will manage.

I went to pick up my euros at the bank on Friday and was upset that they only sent me 200 euro denominations! I don't have enough time to send them back and get new smaller bills, so I am hoping I can change some at the airport, either in Montreal or at CDG. I have e-mailed my landlord to see if it will be inconvenient for him to accept large bills for our rental payment, I'm still waiting to hear back, but I hope he will accept at least some of them. Silly bank, what were they thinking of?

I've notified my credit card company that we will be in Paris, tomorrow I will reconfirm our shuttle pick up times, stop our papers and start packing. I am checking several Paris websites several times a day for any new restaurant recommendations or interesting happenings. We are lucky enough to be there on the Nuit des Musees again (May 16) when a lot of museums throughout France are free and stay open late into the night. We will try to see the Andy Warhol exhibit at the Grand Palais, Monet's Waterlilies accompanied by a classical music quartet at L'Orangerie and the Rodin Gardens by flashlight. We also have tickets to the Bastille Brocante, a large antiques market, for next weekend. We hope to visit Jacques Genin's new chocolate heaven on rue du Turenne and try a new restaurant in the 2ieme called Frenchies. We also have large periods of time where we really have no plans other than to walk where we feel like, stopping for drinks and people watching many times along the way.

In other words, we will be doing a lot of the same stuff as last year: eating, drinking, walking, shopping and just enjoying being in Paris.

I just want the next few days to fly by and the 17 days after that to slooooooowwwwwly go by. Stay tuned for our adventures!!
