February: 2nd Annual Month of Blogging

Feb1.jpg

Some little facts about February 1st:

It's the feast day of St. Brigid of Kildare, one of Ireland's patron saints, and February 1 is traditionally considered the first day of spring in Ireland.

The Oxford English Dictionary was first published on February 1, 1884.

Clark Gable was born on February 1, 1901.

February was named after the Latin Februalia, which was a Roman festival of purification that took place during this month. The aspect of washing and cleaning was related to the fact that it was generally a rainy period of time.

In Santa Barbara we hope for rain during February, and usually it is one of rainiest months. It's also the month that really starts to feel like spring. Happy February!

I love your Feb blogger banner :) Did you make it? Interesting that Feb. 1st is the first day of Spring for Ireland. I wonder why? Glad you are blogging again.

It is true that February seems like the beginning of Spring. The first dafodils are popping out of the dirt and snow this morning here in this dark city.

Fun Facts about February - I love it! I had no idea about Februalia, thanks for enlightening me!
