Toronto the Good

Just a few thoughts on being back in the city of our early married years, sans pictures, because they will be stuck in the camera until we get home at the end of the weekend.

After one of those travel days, where we thought our late flight from LA would make us miss our connector in Dallas, and made us think of how to spend 5 hours in that airport, only to find our connection was late too, so we did make it and amazingly, so did our luggage, we finally arrive in Toronto to a lovely spring evening, get a car to our friends, and eat dinner, drink wine and catch up. Cathy and Jeff had visited California in March, so it was not the usual 5 year catch up conversation.

Yesterday we slept in, and then walked from their mid-city home to trendy Yorkville where we were meeting some Slow Travel friends for lunch. Back in the 70's Yorkville was easing over from a hippy neighborhood to trendy and expensive, it is even more that way today. We are amazed at the luxury residential buildings that are new since our last visit, and amazed at the new construction for more of the same today.

Great lunch; we get to meet Doru and MargM, reconnect with Sharon from CA, who we last saw at dinner in Savannah - lunch was Italian and very good. After lunch Doru took us to a friend's gallery to see a photography exhibition. David and I then took a walk down memory lane through and around the University, Queen's Park and Parliament - it was really spring yesterday and I may post the tulip and lilac tree pictures later to prove it. Took a subway back here, and had a wonderful dinner with Cathy & Jeff, and our other friends Peeter and his wife Kathy; we will see them again tonight for the official reunion dinner.

Today it's a bit drizzly, and I guess we will take off to do something as soon as I can get us both off the computer - old city, but new habits. I'm really glad we decided to come for this weekend.

Sharon from CA:

Marcia, it was great to see you and David in Toronto and to reminisce a bit -- I just wish we had a little more time. Hope to see you both again soon -- wherever!
