WhileI am writing daily journal notes and downloading my pictures to the laptop, hauling said laptop to the internet cafe is more of a challenge, time-wise, so I think a lot will be waiting for me to do next week when we return. For example, the internet cafe is down here on the beach, and we have just gotten off the ferry from Amalfi, so here I am, sans computer.
So, just a few highlights from our days here in Positano:
The Hotel California, with the fabulous views from our room and the patio, and its effusive host, Maria. A first for us; when she mentioned laundry service, we took a count of the clean shirts left for the trip, and voila, we now have truly enough clean things to get us home.
Dinner at a beach cafe, watching the Italy-France quarter-final soccer match, surrounded by Italians - great food and wine, and a still silence when Le Azzuri lost on penalty kicks.
Yesterday our boat trip to Capri: the boat trip around the island was exquisite, the hours in supercrowded Capri Town not so much (but we expected that). Saw the grottos (blue, green and white), and we swam in the Mediterranean.
Today we took a ferry to Amalfi, then a bus up to Ravello. In Ravello, we looked at the Duomo, and walked through the Villa Rufolo gardens. We watched them setting up a stage for the music festival, cantilevered over the cliffs, the audience looks at the sea. David says he would return for this some other year. I bought a piece of pottery (one, uno). Back in Amalfi we have lunch at a place on the beach recommended by Kathy Wood (thanks kaydee), then look at the cathedral. We also have a limocello gelato, amazing flavor.
Tonight, our last evening in Positano, we are going to have dinner at La Tagliata, a restaurant in the hills above our hotel. Tomorrow, we go back to Naples, and pick up our car for the last part of our journey in Umbria. On Friday, we will be seeing Barb & Art for lunch, and then we all plan to go visit MaryT at her inn - it will be fun to see people we met last year at the GTG in Umbria.
Ciao for now . . .
