The journey begins. We had an uneventful check in and departure from LAX, then a smooth trip to Toronto. The luggage made it on this leg, and we transferred it to BA, then went and checked in at BA for our overnight flight to London, then Rome tomorrow. I am in the British Air lounge, where we have had a pre-flight supper and will shortly board our flight. This is all very civilized, I must say and I'm looking forward to maybe actually sleeping on this leg, since we are going to have the Business Class pod experience. I am usually the only person in the cabin who remains wide awake.
On checkin for this flight, we did find out that we will be transferring to T5 in London for the last leg; the person at the desk says the transfer/luggage situation has been much better, but still a little prayer. And I hope the Bushes have departed air space before we arrive, who needs that congestion.
Onward . . .
Update - the pod experience was quite interesting, lots of gadgets to play with; the cabin service with BA was superb - saving up those FF miles for this kind of travel is worth it. We are now in the new BA lounge in the new T5 facility at Heathrow. No trouble getting over here, but it did take us 15 minutes on the bus, I felt we could be in another country by then. Since we have 3+ hours before our flight to Rome, we had a chance to walk through the terminal - it is amazing: large open space, lots of light, high end shops like Gucci, Prada, etc, a small Harrods and Gordon Ramsay take away food for plane flights. The BA lounge is also amazing, maybe the largest we have been in, and this is Business class, not the First lounge. Beyone the banks of computers, and the many areas with comfortable couches, there are dining areas that have open bars, buffets, cappucino machines, etc. - I believe David has gone off to see if he can take a shower.
Interesting in that when I tried to log onto the Slow Talk forums I got a message saying that BA has banned access due to content - perhaps when I find internet in Rome. Back to reading British papers . . .
