A Challah for Rosh Hashonah

I used to bake bread, way back in another life, and I have even baked challah, the long braided kind. I have never baked a New Year's challah, in a round, with raisins. And I probably wasn't going to bake one this year. Until Kim posted a recipe and I thought, well, I could do this (and frankly, finding good ones in my not so Jewish neighborhood seems to get harder every year).
So I took my Kitchenaid mixer, put in the bread hook and gave it a try.

This is the bread, after shaping and before the second rising:

And this is the bread after baking:

We are going to have one of the loaves for a celebratory dinner tonight; we have guests coming over for brisket and the trimmings, including a new recipe for a carrot-tarragon soup for a starter.
I have also baked a honey cake from Terry's recipe, but that is a story for another time.

From our home to yours, a very sweet and healthy New Year. L'shana tovah to all.

That is so inspiring. You got that levetation down! I wish I could do that.

Kim:

So - how did you like it?
