I think that I have been having too much fun making this one, since I can't quite get around to blogging about it, AND it was my choice. I chose peach because it is the flavor of childhood summers to me, and to my sister. Early in the summer we bought some from a well know local ice cream shop and we were very disappointed in the flavor. So when I got on the ice cream train, I knew I would make to choose peach. Even at the end of the summer, since we are here in fertile California, I knew I could get some juicy and tasty peaches at the local farmer's market.

And we all know by now that I prefer to make the ice creams that do not start with cooking a custard, and this recipe, with it's cream, sour cream, and a mixture of sugar-cooked peaches, fit fit that requirement nicely. Here are the ingredients:

We (David and I) thought that this was simply wonderful, and thought the slight tang from the sour cream was a perfect touch. The tang mellowed after the ice cream spent some time in the freezer, but it was good either way. I decided that the only thing this dessert needed were a few fresh raspberries for a topping, and so that's how we ate it. Definitely a keeper.

It was so good that I decided we needed to bring it to a picnic dinner that we were having with friends at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday evening. Bringing ice cream anywhere in the great outdoors presents a challenge; I offered to do the packing, David was in charge of keeping it cold. Note: dry ice works quite well, and like a charcoal barbecue, you are left wishing you had more things to keep cold while it lasts. Second note: I made another batch because I did not think one batch could fill the six 1-cup containers. I was wrong, but we shared the second batch with out neighbors.
Packing:

I wanted to catch the actual dessert course at the Bowl in a picture, but I forgot the camera until this is what was left:

I had a lot of fun with Peach Ice Cream week, which is good because we will be away next weekend , plus it's a very busy week at work. This means I will have to live vicariously through SSS Week 6, at least until I have more time. In the meantime, having bought too many raspberries, I an currently chilling a batch of Raspberry Frozen Yoghurt.
