While meme browsing the other afternoon, I came across this site:
http://howmanyofme.com/
This is what they say:
"There are 305,861,804 people in the United States of America. If everyone in the U.S. lined up single file, the line would stretch around the Earth almost 7 times. That's a lot of people.
The U.S. Census Bureau statistics tell us that there are at least 88,799 different last names and 5,163 different first names in common use in the United States. Some names are more common than others.
There are 50,508 people named John Smith in the United States. There are 1,069 people named James Bond, 115 people named Harry Potter , 513 people named George Bush, and 32 people named Emily Dickinson. However, Johnny Cash (39 people) songs aside there are, statistically speaking, very few boys named Sue.
What about you? How many people share your name? Enter it and find out how many of you there are."
So I entered my name and got this result:
Here's the breakdown:
Marcia Battin
There are 137,638 people in the U.S. with the first name Marcia.
Statistically the 433rd most popular first name.
More than 99.9 percent of people with the first name Marcia are female.
Names similar to Marcia:
Mary
There are 1,896 people in the U.S. with the last name Battin.
Statistically the 15944th most popular last name.
Marcia Battin
There is 1 person in the U.S. named Marcia Battin.
I actually was surprised, and bemused and oh, a few other things as well.

Marcia, mine said "there is 1 or fewer people with my name", does this mean that I may not exist?
How cool though to be the one and only.

There are 1,498,753 and it's the 15th most popular name. I don't see why. They all must be Baby Boomers. I never liked my name. Whenever I said my name they thought I said "Margaret". Hmmm.

I always wanted to have a more unique name. (There are MANY women of my exact age named Kathy.) I checked Kathryn Wood (351) and Kathy Wood (408). I also have thought my maiden name (Coleman) was not as common as my married name (Wood), but they are almost the same. Wood is the 78th most popular last name and Coleman is number 81.
I have a google alert set up on my name, so I know about some of the other Kathy Woods around.

Cool! I am the only one with my name in my country and I am sure I am the only one in the US as well. Feels good to be unique once in a while! :)
