Blogging about not blogging

It has been while since I've been over here, at first I thought it was finishing Alaska that did me in, but really, I think I have fallen into a summer malaise. It didn't help that I had merely a week between the cruise and the wedding to get my life (and laundry) back into order, but I thought that I would be jumping back in soon after that. I even brought my laptop on our trip to Northern California, sure I would be keeping up.

But I didn't.

Oh, I 've downloaded lots of pictures from my camera, beginning with our wonderful 4th of July weekend in Aptos, straight through to the many activities of wedding week in Bodega Bay. Now that I'm home, I have even caught up with some of the Sunday Salad Samplers, all duly recorded on my camera, but certainly not here.

Apparently I have fallen victim to the "reluctant" part of my blog title. Writer's block? Summer ennui? I really have no idea. And I have not been reading blogs either, so by now I am pretty sure no one is actually going to read what I am writing this morning, over coffee and what passes for the the LA Times, a shadow of its former self. I am also phone sitting, waiting for my cousin to call and tell me the baby news from her daughter, who is having a c-section as we speak. My son and bride have e-mailed via i-phone that their plane has landed safely in Rome and they are making their way to Positano as I sit here.

It's not like I have forsaken the internet by any means, just my blog. I have been posting all over SlowTrav, checking in with Fodors, and even starting to make travel plans for our return to Italy next June. I have actually been enjoying these lazy mornings at home this summer, a summer which seems to have started late only in that we traveled more than we usually do in the very beginning; I have one more week of this lazy bliss, then we are going to spend a few days in Sacramento before having a grandbaby visit for my last vacation week.

Perhaps the fact that I have have a whole list of blog posts floating around in my head is a good sign, but for now I am apparently still frozen in place. Writing this all down is cathartic, an exercise in something I am sure, just something I cannot put my finger on.

Marcia,
I am glad you are enjoying your summer! When ever you are ready to write, I will read:)

Marcia, I am so glad to see you posting! I do check every couple of days, and I knew you would be back one of these days.

I understand what you mean about summer malaise (or whatever it is). One thing I do when I want to get inspired to blog is set up the title of blog posts (as unpublished posts) so then I have a bunch of subjects to choose from.

Instead of it all being in my head, at least there are some subjects in writing. Then just post a little at a time when you are inspired, and pretty soon a post is done.

It sounds like you are having a good but busy summer. I find my motivation for blogging waxes and wanes, so I just go with the flow. Enjoy the lazy bliss!

I find it hard to keep motivated to do blog posts. I find it harder in the fall and winter, mainly because I usually have something to take a picture of in the summer. But don't push yourself. It should be a pleasure - not a burden.

Enjoy the summer.

Marcia, I know what you mean about the summer malaise. I feel the same way!Since I hate the cold weather, I found it easier to focus on blogging in the fall & winter. Like Candi, I will read whenever you are ready to write!

I felt the same way when I returned from Italy this summer. I still haven't caught up! For me, I had so much to share and I just did not know where to start plus the jetlag and school starting. I need a vacation!
