Porto Azzurro, Elba

Described as a fashionable resort town, Porto Azzurro is the second port on the island of Elba; Portoferraio being the first. With good anchorage, a pretty square by the sea, pastel color houses and picturesque alleys, the town is a very popular summer destination.

Kudos to Girasoli for identifying the location of the header photo. A while back I had posted a photo of a sunset on Elba and linked it to my photo album on Slowphoto. The header photo is part of that album.

Gorgeous photos today! :)

Wow!! I can't believe I guessed correctly! Something about it looked Italian and I remembered you mentioned visiting Elba. Wow!

The photos are gorgeous. I still need to put that on my list of places to visit.

Kathy (Trekcapri):

Hi Maria, I'll have to look up Elba now, because from your photos it looks like a beautiful island with the makings of a potential future trip! :)

Great job Girasoli for getting it right.

Girasoli and Kathy: Elba is a wonderful destination and very popular during the summer months. Public transportation on the island is a bit of a challenge in the off season but adequate in the summer months. We were there in October and most of the tourists we saw were Swiss. There's great hiking, a few castles and forts and sandy beaches on the west coast. I'd love to go back when the weather is warm.

Leslie: Thanks! :-)

What a beautiful place! Your photos are wonderful, and you did a great job cropping and designing your new header.

And way to go, Girasoli!

Maria, I love those photos. I've never been to Elba. Maybe it should go to our someday list.

Anne:

I was wondering about spending a couple days on Elba this October. These photos are gorgeous, I must do some more research!

Maria, those are such beautiful photos. I've been admiring your header photo and wondering where it was taken! Elba looks lovely. The list of places I need to visit in Italy is becoming longer and longer.....
