Whether they are merely day trips or trips to long-desired destinations, travels with my daughter, Marica, are always a highlight of my life. Marica is on the faculty at Penn State so is only in Europe over the Christmas holidays and during the summer months. To travel together in those periods is a real treat.

Our traveling together actually started long before the era of easy sharing of photos with digital photography. So the memories of our trips together in the States - to Nantucket, Maine, Litchfield and Essex, Connecticut - to mention just a few, during her years either at Williams or Yale, are tucked away in albums.

But more recently, trip memories are being stored on our computers and are easily shared. Having a daughter like Marica is an enormous blessing, having a travel companion like Marica is an EXTRA blessing. Our joy starts with the planning, the choice of the best guidebook, the internet research on the chosen destination, the various notes we take on "best cafè" or "picturesque neighborhood" or "not to miss food specialties".
The choice of the hotel is always given great attention since we both find that zeroing in on the "right" one makes or breaks a trip. Location, atmosphere and comfort are foremost on my mind as I get older. Transportation, transfers, schedules, distances are all assessed carefully.

Our tastes in what we want to see and the pace at which we want to see it are very similar as are our cultural interests and attention spans. We enjoy serious sightseeing and "serious breaks" at outdoor cafès but always with a relaxed-let's-take-the-time-to-experience-and-not-just-see rythm.

How many EXQUISITE memories over the years!!!!! How many UNFORGETTABLE huge and tiny pleasures are permanently forged in our memories. How many PRICELESS magic moments we have shared!
