A COLD AFTERNOON IN ASSISI

We are lucky enough to live only 15 minutes from Assisi. While Mar, our daughter, was still home for the holidays we ventured over to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and to purchase a couple things she wanted at Zubboli's.

It was one of those COLD afternoons which always seem colder in Assisi than elsewhere. The arctic wind was unbearable on several of the steep, narrow lanes leading down to the piazza from the main parking area. We ducked inside to warm up over a cup of hot chocolate before continuing are stroll.

The late afternoon sun was just about to set on the lovely Romanesque façade of San Rufino which seemed even more regal in the dim light. P1020116.jpg

In the piazza we happened onto an interesting exhibition of extremely original wood carvings and a rather new store featuring the best of Norcia products.

We purchased a few gourmet delights and sampled a few new patè.

On the way up to the parking lot, we had Genius Loci embroidered on a cute apron which I will use for my cooking classes at the inn.

We ate our favorite rustic dishes by a roaring fire at La Stalla after our time in Assisi. How special it is to have so many "jewels" of towns and villages so close by.
